On this page, you will find instruments that are specifically aimed at assessing shocking (possibly traumatic) events someone may have experienced, posttraumatic stress responses afterwards, and at determining the diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This also includes instruments for related symptomatologies, such as the dissociative subtype of PTSD and a persistent complex bereavement disorder. The instruments can be used for research, psychological evaluation and routine outcome monitoring (ROM) of adults with (complex) psychotrauma symptoms. They can be used by psychologists, psychiatrists, psychological evaluation staff and academics with experience in standardized diagnostic techniques and an understanding of the conceptual basis for the diagnosis PTSD and associated symptoms and related symptomatologies, such as the dissociative subtype of PTSD and symptoms of traumatic grief. The questions may evoke emotionally stressful memories. The option of follow-up care must already be in place before the different questionnaires are administered.

The table gives an overview of various translations of PTSD-related instruments (with a brief explanation), any available additional documentation and any relevant links.

Dissociative Subtype of PTSD - Interview (DSP-I) for DSM-5

The DSPI consists of two parts. PART 1 is a 10-minute clinical interview to assess the extent and severity of the dissociative subtype of PTSD according to the DSM-5. PART 2 is a checklist to establish the presence of other PTSD-related dissociative symptoms. The checklist can be used as an interview or as a self-report questionnaire. It is recommended to use the DSPI as a complement to the CAPS-5.
